US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Friday visited the historic Thiksey Monastery in Ladakh, one of the region’s most recognisable Buddhist landmarks and a site often compared with Tibet’s famed Potala Palace.

Perched on a hill about 19 km from Leh, Thiksey is the largest monastery in central Ladakh. Its distinctive multi-level structure, rising above the surrounding landscape, has earned it comparisons with the Potala Palace in Lhasa.
