The Chinese government of Drago County in the Kham region of Tibet has transformed a sacred Buddhist landmark into a racecourse and named it after the Chinese Red Army, Tibet Watch has learned from an eyewitness, satellite images, and Chinese media reports.
Once home to a 99-foot Buddha statue in Sengdeng Village, the sacred site has been converted since 2023 into a racecourse and named Drago County Red Army Cavalry Division Racecourse. Since May 2023, the county government has hosted state-led sports and cultural festivals to promote party narratives of history, known as ‘red tourism’.
