Through the Lens: Deadly flood Hits Nepal and Tibet in Himalayan valley
A massive landslide struck a mountainous area in central Nepal on Aug. 26, and as of the 27th, authorities reported at least 359 people dead and 910 missing. A large flash flood occurred in a valley near the border with China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The Bhotekoshi River, which runs through the Rasuwa district in central Nepal, overflowed, and the resulting landslide swept away villages, roads, bridges and a hydropower plant. Local residents, along with many foreign tourists -- including pilgrims traveling to Tibet -- were caught in the disaster. According to Nepalese authorities, citizens of India, the U.S., Australia and other countries are among those affected.
